When not being worn, caps should not lie around without attention, but be hung on the coat rack, or on hat hooks, without heavy objects resting on them to deform their shape. After wearing for some time, it is inevitable for caps to get dirty inside and out, with grease, dirt and soil, as well as sweat, and odor, which can be rid off by hand washing. The removable rims can be removed for washing, and put back after drying, to avoid mildews growing from the moist caused by sweating, to make the hat less durable in its original shape. Brush off the dust gathered on the hat now and then. Remove any soil and dirt gathered on it, by dipping the brush in hot soapy water and apply it gently on the dirty spots, and rinse it with clear water thoroughly. When washing the hat, it is advisable to put the hat on a round can, a porcelain basin or a bowl about the same size, to help keep its shape. Washed away, and dried in the sun. Wrap it with paper before putting it in a hat box with drying agent (desiccant/silicon) to keep the humidity low, to be stored in a dry place with good ventilation. Some hat canopy (the protruding part of a cap) should not be washed for the material used, such as feathers, sequins, or paper, but cotton one is washable. You will ruin the hat totally by washing the one made of paper as that is not reversible once the damage is caused. Cone shape or tall hat should never be washed in a washing machine.
